Whew! Done! & the story of Corrie the Felting Machine

The seventy two New York Beauty blocks are together, trimmed, pressed, photographed and ready to go in the mail on Tuesday morning! I find some quilts "want to be" and others just don't. This one was a "want to be", and went together in no time.

One of the quilters who greatly inspired me as a beginning quilter was Karen K. Stone, in particular her Lady Liberty quilt, and this top reminds me of Lady Liberty. I'm sure at some point I will become bored with the New York Beauty pattern, but just not now!

Today I'm playing with some Christmas craft sale ideas - 2" pin/brooches, pouch bags which will hold only cell phone, cash & keys, and some new machine felting fibres I picked up last week. These braids are called Blue Face Leicester Slivers and are from Fleece Artist in Mineville, Nova Scotia. I can't wait to get at them, but first the story of my felting machine.

Down in Digby County there is a "salvage" outlet, called Graff Bros which my husband loved to go and root through on a Sunday looking for treasures, back when we lived in Digby County. They have the former Corrieberry (sp?) school house to display additional items, and what did I find in the schoolhouse one Sunday but an old Singer sewing machine, complete with wooden case. Its decals were not worn, and it appeared to have all of its parts, so I made a deal and soon she was mine! When we got home, sadly, I discovered that the knee "pedal" which operates the machine, was missing. (You can see it hanging down the front, beside the power cord.) It was October, and the store had closed for the season. Hubby John said he'd try to make a part to replace it, but he was rather busy at the time, what with remodelling our house, and so the Singer sat for the winter. Come spring, on another Sunday outing, we stopped by Graff Bros, I (of course) went to the Corrieberry school house, and sitting in plain sight was my knee pedal! Needless to say, Singer & pedal are reunited, she has been named Corrie, and with the addition of a needle felting foot bought on Ebay from Plum Crazy Ranch, I have my felting machine!

If any of my Friday projects turn out, I'll post pictures. If anyone has ideas of what might be hot for Christmas sales this year, please post a comment or send an email!

Have a great long weekend!

Maggie

I have EXACTLY that same machine. Mine was rescued from a load of stuff bound for the dump when someone was cleaning out a garage and home of an elderly woman. Alas, I am sadly missing the knee control as well.. and everything from that site is long gone. If your hubby is handy and you have an original to go by, I'm wondering if he could fabricate something for me?? I'd, of course, be willing to pay or trade fabric for the knee control.. so long as it isn't too dear. I'd love to hear from you.

Hi, Edna! I'll check with hubby . . . but first - did you get the top/cover for the machine? Because the original storage spot for the knee lift was to tuck it in a slot in the cover. You wouldn't even know it was there unless you were looking for it. Could it possibly still be in there???
