The No Scrap Rule

Scraps are like rabbits;  turn your back for one moment, and they multiply.  Yes, I know, the more frugal among us dig through, looking for just the right scrap, but to be honest, I'm mostly not that person.  And because I sell almost everything I make, I always seem to be behind, and it takes a really long time to dig through all those scraps, so it just doesn't happen!  When I moved, I gave away 13 large garbage bags full of scraps.  Some were big, some were small, most were cotton, some were vintage, but all were scraps.  And I still wound up moving a bunch that were buried among the packed boxes, and didn't make the giveaway.

So, since my sewing studio is no longer hidden away and therefore must be kept (somewhat) neat and tidy, I have a new rule.  No scraps.  None!  And here's how . . . . . at the end of every project, each and every scrap must be dealt with.  I'm using my two and a half inch square template and my 2" half square triangle template, and each scrap must be either a square, a half square, or a strip suitable for a log cabin or a pineapple quilt.  And it's working!  See . . . . .

And soon I'll have enough to put together a quilt.

And speaking of rabbits, this little guy comes around every morning (as long as The Critter isn't out).

I'm not growing veggies so he's quite welcome here!

Happy Quilting!
Maggie

I suppose it's a question of when is a scrap not a scrap - when it's a work in progress! How clever of you! I've just found your blog, how do I become a follower? or don't you have them? Anyway, I shall return and greetings from New Zealand.
